“I told you just now, the child isn’t mine!”
“You’re lying, I don’t believe you!” Julia voice was sharp and piercing. “Are you denying the child just to save her? Are you protecting her but refusing to acknowledge the baby?”
Nash roared in frustration, his patience finally snapping. “At a time like this, do you really think I have a reason to lie?! If the child were mine, would I ever deny it? From start to finish, I never touched Caroline, How the hell could she be pregnant with my child?!”
Julia froze. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
If… if Caroline wasn’t carrying Nash’s child, then everything she had done, everything she had schemed for what? What was the point!
Caroline stunned, her tear–blurred eyes slowly widened. “You… you never touched me?”
Is this real or not? I can’t longer tell what was true and what was a lie!
At that moment, the sharp sound of footsteps echoed through the room, click, click, click. David stepped into the operating room, the chaotic noise ceased instantly. Silence fell over the space as every pair of eyes turned to David.
He exuded an aura of power, standing there in stark contrast to the disordered, grimy surroundings. Even with the mess on the floor, his polished shoes remained spotless, untouched by the filth beneath him. David walked directly to Caroline’s side.
He said nothing, merely casting a glance at her. Caroline was already looking at him.
Their eyes met, even didn’t say a word, but it felt as though a thousand words had passed between them. Caroline knew David had been outside the whole time. He had arrived at nearly the same time as Nash.
But it was Nash who had fought to save her, it was Nash who had broken down the door. From beginning to end…David had done nothing.
Caroline had assumed Nash was fighting for the child, because he thought it was his child.
But just moments ago, she had heard a shocking truth, the child wasn’t Nash.
So, Nash had fought so desperately, only to saveme!And David? Had he never once considered saving me at all?
In the suffocating silence, David removed his suit jacket and draped it over Caroline lap. This also obscured Caroline…dignity. Then, he reached down and began untying the ropes from her ankles.
“Is the child still there?” David voice was low, roughened with an unfamiliar hoarseness.
Caroline stared at him, unable to speak.
David tone sharpened, his patience snapping. “I ask, is the child still there?!”
