Caroline met his gaze, unwavering. “I just want to cut ties with him, no further involvement. He has his life, and I have mine. The past is over, done with. I dont want to depend on him, and I don’t want to hurt
him. This ends here.”
Four years of feelings, being bought, being taken. It was all behind her.
He should have no place in her life anymore, as if they were strangers.
So, Caroline didn’t want Nash to be dragged into this, and she protected him not because she still loved him, but because her problems had nothing to do with him.
The child was hers. She carried it, gave birth to it, and raised it.
Her battle with David, the negotiations, was all her struggle. She was on her own.
