Chapter 440
The group chatted casually for a while until Cole arrived to drive her home, at which point she ended the call.
“Ms. Hart,” Cole called out to her before she got out of the car. Lila turned to look at him, waiting for him to continue.
“For the past few days, Mr. Morgan has had his men watching over you. As soon as he found out where James was, he rushed over. When he landed and realised you and James were in the same place, he started to panic.” He let out a small sigh. “I know it’s not my place to comment, but he really cares about you.”
Lila nodded, unsure of how to respond.
“Have a good evening,” Cole added. Once she was safely inside, he left.
Soon after Louise and Ash noticed she was back, they hurried over, anxious to ask about her condition. “You’re hurt! Is it serious?”
Lila touched the bandage on her neck and smiled. “I’m fine. It’s just a small cut.”
“You have no idea how worried I was when Ash came back and told me about what happened to you!” Louise said with a thick accent.
Once they made sure she was okay, Louise and Ash left her alone.
The next morning, Louise prepared several more sweet potatoes. “Bring some to your lifesaver too,” she said, treating Lila as if she were her own granddaughter.
Lila hesitated for a moment about whether or not to go to the hospital. The village was remote, and the hospital was in Saltsburg. Cole had driven over an hour to bring her back last night.
However, Louise had already packed the sweet potatoes and some of her homemade pastries. “Go on,” she urged.
“I want to go too!” Ash chimed in, sticking his head out.
“But it’s none of your business…” Lila shot him a look, paused, then said, “Alright, I’ll take you with me.”
It wouldn’t be as awkward with more
people, and she could use him as an
excuse to leave early if necessary.

The only problem was the distance; taking the bus to Saltsburg would be too much hassle Hence, she borrowed a car from the film set.
Ash, sitting in the passenger seat, looked fascinated. “Lila, this is the first time I’ve ever ridden in a car like this!”
Lila, feeling a bit sorry for him, reached over and patted his head. “Study hard, get into university, and when you work, you can buy one of these for yourself.”
He was young and didn’t really get it, but he nodded anyway.
When they arrived at the hospital, Cole had just returned with some medicine. He was surprised to see her. He had assumed Lila wouldn’t be coming that day. Kieran thought the same, so when he saw her, he looked surprised too.
Lila glanced at the other papers in Cole’s hand. “What’s this?”
Cole smiled. “We’ve arranged for a transfer to another hospital, planning to go back to Northridge It’s not just for better medical care But also because it’s closer to the company, making it easier for Mr. Morgan to handle things.”
Lila didn’t ask any more questions-she already knew about the situation.
“This child is…?”
“He’s Ash, the child of the family I’m staying with.”
Ash smiled sweetly. “It’s nice to meet you, mister!”
Cole beamed. “This kid sure is polite.”
He felt a lot younger interacting with such a young child. Even men don’t want to
accept the fact that they are getting older, after all.
On the way to the hospital, Lila had
bought a few children’s comic books for Ash, and he sat quietly on the couch reading them. Kieran was busy with work, so tila didn’t bother him. She sat next to him, slicing up a fruit platter. Half of it went to Kieran, and the other half to Ash
While Lila went to the bathroom, the door was slightly ajar, and she happened to
overhear Ash asking, “Mister, are you Lila’s boyfriend?”
Cole corrected him. “I’m her husband.”
