Lila stared at the tall man in a daze.
It had only been a few days since they last met, but he seemed a little… haggard?
She immediately dismissed the thought. A man as elegant and dignified as him could hardly ever be associated with the word “haggard”.
Sensing her gaze, the man turned to look at her. His previously dark and cold eyes flickered with a hint of light.
Amelia noticed the situation and said, “I’ll wait for you in the car.”
With that, she turned and walked away.
Lila hesitated for a moment, but before she could take a step, Kieran had already walked over.
He reached out and, with natural familiarity, adjusted her coat. “It’s cold out. You just recovered. Take care of yourself.”
Lila lowered her gaze and softly murmured, “Mmm.”
“Heading out to buy something?”
She nodded. “Amelia gave me a kitten. We’re going to buy supplies for her.”
“I’ll take you.”
“It’s fine,” Lila declined gently.
Both of their tones were calm, conversating just like they used to without any trace of awkwardness.
“Is there a reason you’re here?”
Kieran replied, “No. I just wanted to check on you.”
After a pause, he added, “It’s cold out. Go quickly and come back soon.”
He took a step back, making way for her.
Lila took a step forward but stopped and turned back.
“Was it you who arranged for Pierre to be taken in?”
Kieran’s gaze fell on her face as he nodded slightly.
Lila nodded in return. “That day, I lied to you. The person who spoke to me in the hospital corridor was him. He wanted to make a deal with me to protect his sister, Vivian.”
“But I’ve already figured out James’s identity.”
“The Locke family has done many unforgivable things,” she said, her tone calm and steady, with little emotion.
Kieran’s gaze was steady, and his voice warm. “They will be punished.”
Lila nodded again. “Then, I’ll head off first. It’s cold, so you should go back soon too.”
“Alright. I’ll leave after you do.”
He stood there watching as Lila turned around and walked slowly toward Amelia. It was only after their car left the neighborhood that he moved his stiff legs and left.
Lila and Amelia bought many cat supplies, making two trips to bring everything upstairs.
They spent two hours assembling a large cat tree. But since Nova was only two months old, she couldn’t climb it yet.
A few days later, Lila went to the office.
Outsiders were still unaware of her current situation with the Morgan family.
Cedric, upon learning she was in, stopped by her office.
“Are you free tomorrow?”
Lila had just finished organizing her desk and nodded. “Yes. Is there an event for Jamie that I need to oversee?”
Ethan had mentioned something about it a few days ago.
“No, it’s for Liam and that new guy you introduced-the one who used to be a bartender. Remember?” Cedric reminded her.
When she nodded, he continued, “The two of them have a business event. You’ll go along to accompany them.”
“Sure,” Lila agreed without hesitation. Staying busy would keep her from overthinking.
The next day, she got up early. The weather was still cold, so she put on a long down jacket.
Most of these clothes were from Kieran but sent over by Amelia. Some were her old clothes, while others were new. Among them was one red sweater that she had never worn.

Lila took the sweater, then stuffed it into the deepest corner of her wardrobe.
When she arrived at the office, Liam noticed her and was in a visibly good mood. He pulled out a bag of jerky snacks from his pocket and handed it to her.
