Chapter 417
Lila and Kieran hurried to the hospital. Amelie was still in the emergency room. The members of the Morgan family all wore heavy expressions. “Aunt Nicole, what happened?” Lila asked.
Although Amelie was old and didn’t have good health, she had been taking her medicine. Her condition wasn’t bad. “Wasn’t she well when we left in the
morning?”
Why did Amelie suddenly get admitted to the hospital? Lila grabbed Nicole’s arm. She looked worried and scared.
Nicole patted Lila’s hand and comforted her, “Don’t worry. She’ll be fine.”
Lila realized that Nicole’s palm was sweating. She took a deep breath and comforted Nicole by holding her hand tightly.
When Amelie came out of the emergency room, it was already an hour later. Due to the anesthetic, she was still unconscious.
The doctor led the family members to the office to explain the situation to them. Nicole turned around and said, “Lila, you should accompany Grandma in the ward.”
Lila nodded and followed the nurse to the ward. Meanwhile, Kieran went to get warm water, leaving her alone in the ward.
Lila touched Amelia’s cold fingers. A while later, the door opened. She thought that Nicole had returned, but when she turned her head, she only caught a glimpse of a black hem slipping past.
Lila wanted to go out and take a look when Amelie woke up. Amelia held Lila’s hand.
“Lila.” Amelie’s voice was so weak that she seemed to have turned ten years older. Lila turned back around and held Amelie’s hand. “Grandma, I’m here. How do you feel?”
“Why did Nicole call you over? Is the new house pretty? Why don’t you and Kieran hold the wedding during spring next year when the flowers bloom?”
Amelie spoke slowly. Nevertheless, Lila could tell that Amelie was pretending to be fine. Lila held back her emotions. She didn’t want to show sadness.
“Sure. Why don’t you officiate at the wedding?” Lila spoke casually.
“How could you let me officiate at the wedding? By then, I’ll invite the director you like the most.” With a smile, Amelie continued, “Or I can invite Taylor over.”
Lila chuckled. “You even know Mr. Foster?”
“I know every big shot in Northridge. When you were in university, I met him a few times. I knew you didn’t like outsiders to know about your family matters, so I didn’t tell him that you’re a part of my family.”
“Mr. Foster is old. If he can officiate at the wedding, you can too.”
Lila felt touched. Her words made Amelie smile, but the latter still looked weak.
“So, just focus on getting treated. Stop overthinking things.”
Of course, Lila could tell what Amelie wanted to say. “You must live a long life. You promised me before. Whoever goes against their promise are bad people.”
Amelie didn’t respond. Lila lowered
her gaze and tucked Amelie in.
“Uncle Kieran went to get some warm water. He’ll be back soon f go and buy fruits later. I have
ve
nothing to do recently, so I’ll accompany you here. We’ll watch
dramas and look at handsome men together.”
Kieran happened to enter the ward at this time. “Look at handsome men?”
Lila felt awkward. She only said it casually, but with Kieran questioning her in this manner, why did it feel like she had been caught cheating?
Amelie snorted. “I was worried that you wouldn’t cut it, so I went ahead and found another match for Lila in advance.”
Amelie knew that Kieran and Lila hadn’t done the deed even though they had gotten married for more than half a month. On such a romantic honeymoon, how could Kieran hold himself back? She even suspected that he might have some kind of physical issue.
Kieran raised an eyebrow. “I thought you were planning to ditch Grandpa and find someone new.”
“You’re such a brat!”
Amelie huffed angrily with her eyes wide, but she still retorted, “You’ve given me an idea though. When I’m
gone, all my shares will go to Lila With money in her hands, I won’t
have to worry about her being buffied.”
