Jasper’s face flushed with rage when he saw Stella actually wearing The
Wilkinson Group’s signature masterpiece. His eyes went red with anger. He knew without a doubt-Stella was doing this on purpose.
She had worn that dress just to spite him.
Jasper started to storm over, but Rachel grabbed his arm, stopping him.
Rachel could see right through Stella’s intentions—she was deliberately provoking Jasper.

think Haynes’s money was hers to burn?
Rachel shot Stella a cold glance, a mocking smile flickering in her eyes.

Stella ignored Jasper’s indignant glare and turned with a bright smile to Haynes.
“So, Mr. O’Brien, you’ve suddenly become so generous with me. Surely you want something in return? Let me guess… what might that be?” She pretended to ponder for a moment. “Hmm, there’s not much about me worth scheming for. The only thing I have of real value is my violin-Nocturne Stella.”
“Mr. O’Brien, I suppose you want me to lend my violin to Rachel, don’t you?”
Haynes’s lips moved slightly. “Just for a little while. It’ll be returned to you.”
“So I guessed right,” Stella nodded. “But what if I lend her the violin and she damages it?”
Haynes’s voice was low and steady. “She won’t.”
“Anything can happen. Didn’t you always tell me not to make absolute statements? So why are you suddenly so sure now, when it’s your turn?” “Nora is Rachel’s idol,” Haynes replied. “She’ll take great care of the violin.”
“Haynes, I’m asking what happens if the violin gets damaged, and you’re just dodging the question. But it doesn’t matter, because I’m not lending it to you anyway.”
Stella lifted her gaze, stepping closer so her delicate face was near his ear, her words clear and deliberate.
“You have no idea how happy I am to finally be divorcing you. Do you know why I went on all those shopping sprees lately, using the name Mrs. O’Brien? I was afraid you’d pull some trick and find an excuse to delay the divorce.”
Haynes’s pupils contracted sharply. A wave of helplessness rose within him—a feeling entirely foreign, and deeply unsettling.
But almost instantly, that anxiety twisted into anger.
He said coldly, “Stella, you’ll regret this.”
Stella smiled faintly. “You’ll have to divorce me before I get the chance to regret anything. Now, can we go inside and get this over with?”
Expressionless, Haynes gave her a final look before striding into city hall.
The two of them sat at the divorce counter, handing over their documents to the clerk.
After checking their paperwork, the clerk looked up at them.
“You still have the option to reconsider. If either of you changes your mind, we can
cancel today’s appointment. Are you sure you don’t want to think it over?”
Stella replied, “No, please process the divorce as soon as possible.”
The clerk turned to Haynes. “And you, Mr. O’Brien?”
Haynes suddenly said, “Wait.”
