She paused for a moment, and said, “I heard that my sudden illness the other day disrupted your date with Ms. Cameron, Haynes… Since Ms. Cameron has found her way here, you should go.
I have Jasper here with me, and that’s just as good.”
Haynes’ deep eyes were as cold and cutting as a winter’s gale.
Lately, Jasper had been constantly feeding thoughts into Haynes’ head, making him almost believe that Stella had invited him for a date.
Or maybe, deep down, he refused to believe that Stella truly wanted a divorce.
With a voice as frigid as an ice storm, Haynes said, “Stella, I can’t stand clingy women.”
Stella had had enough of this trio’s nonsense.
“Why are there so many delusional people? When I say I want a divorce, why do you keep talking about dates and playing hard to get? Are you out of your mind or just not understanding plain English?”
At this point, Mr. Burton, who had been watching the drama unfold while munching on popcorn, finally spoke up,
“Haynes, Jasper, and Rachel, you’ve got it all wrong today. My young apprentice here—I called her yesterday to come and help.”
All three of them turned their attention to Mr. Burton.

But now wasn’t the time to dwell on that. Rachel hesitated before asking, “Mr. Burton, do you know Ms. Cameron?”
“Of course, didn’t I just say so? I called her to help me out.” Mr. Burton raised an eyebrow, “What, are you having trouble understanding me?”
Jasper was skeptical, “Old man, did you say Stella is your protégé? You must be kidding, right? She’s a homemaker, and she knows medicine?”
“And if you know Stella, then… are you two in cahoots, trying to pull a fast one on us?”
Mr. Burton looked at Jasper with a bemused expression, “Jasper, is your head full of hot air? If Stella and I truly wanted to set you up, wouldn’t it be better to keep her hidden?
Would we really call her over and announce we’re up to something? Use your head.”
Jasper was left speechless.
Right, no sane person would be that stupid.
Haynes had originally thought Stella had followed him here.
He hadn’t expected that she and Mr. Burton actually knew each other.
So… had he misunderstood her?
However, upon realizing that Stella wasn’t intentionally pestering him, Haynes didn’t feel relieved; instead, a faint sense of irritation welled up inside him.
Haynes fixed his gaze on Stella, “Why didn’t you ever mention that you know Mr. Burton?”
Stella was baffled, “Why would I tell you that? How was I supposed to know you were looking for Mr. Burton? Did you ever ask me?”
In truth, Haynes never volunteered information about Rachel to her.
Even if she asked, Haynes would keep his lips sealed.
And now, he blamed her for not mentioning it.
Truly absurd.
Haynes seemed to realize that Stella couldn’t have known they were looking for
Mr. Burton, but a sliver of suspicion still lingered.
“How did you two meet?”
Mr. Burton explained, “Oh, two years ago, Stella came to me seeking medicine for
her mother-in-law. That’s how we met.”
Haynes looked at Mr. Burton and asked,
“When we came yesterday, did you already know who I was?”
