Chapter 112

The pain was like nothing I could describe, but it was nothing in comparison to seeing both of my mates hurt and unconscious as Alpha Kai threw them one by one, into the basement, caring little whether they got hurt on the way down the stairs. Xander, thankfully seemed okay, other than a little out of it, but Xavier, I sucked in a breath. Xavier was in bad shape, with an injury in his shoulder, blood trickling freely out of it, while he lay there, oblivious to everything.

“Xavier” I gasped, moving over to him and frantically shaking him as gently as I could under the circumstances, my back continuing to throb with pain. “Xavier, wake up” I cried, biting my lip and looking down at how badly injured he was.

I was afraid that he was going to die from the amount of blood loss I could see on the ground. The blood began to pool around him and I could smell the scent of his iron from his blood in the air.

His eyes began to slowly flutter open, but they were clouded and glazed with pain. “Huh, what? Regan” he said incredulously and began to struggle, but I shook my head, pressing my hand against his chest and preventing him from getting up. He was going to injure himself even further if he wasn’t careful.

“You’re hurt,” I said quietly, as he clutched at the wound, “we have to stop the bleeding.”

He blinked at me, while I scanned the room. Finally, I gave up, shrugging and pulling off the remaining remnants of my dress. As I began to tear it into strips, I saw Xavier’s gaze go to me, his sharp indrawn breath indicating he had seen the large bruises and gashes against my back. I stilled, but his eyes were filled with pain as he stared at me, an expression of regret on his face. Did he think this was his fault? I would never blame him for this. This was all that asshole Alpha Kai’s doing.

“Bastard” he growled, his eyes blazing with undeniable anger.

I began to carefully bandage his wound with my dress, grateful I still had a bra on. I shook my head at him. “Don’t worry about that for now. Let’s get you and your brother taken care of.”

He managed to sit up with assistance, glancing from me to an unconscious Xander. “Can you wake him?” he asked sounding doubtful.

I nibbled on my lower lip and then moved, shaking Xander hard with both of my hands, feeling as though he was a leaden weight that refused to budge. “Xander, Xander wake up” I pleaded, my voice rising slightly.

It was harder to wake him than it was to wake Xavier. Perhaps being in pain had helped Xavier to wake a little easier, I thought as I continued to shove at my other mate. Eventually, Xander’s eyes began to slowly open and he looked up at me disorientated, before he shot up, sitting upright and grabbing me before I could utter a word of protest, his arms wrapping tightly around me as I tried to keep back my cry of pain.

“Regan” he growled, “how are you, are you okay?” he asked, staring at me in wonder.

“You’re hurting her” Xavier snarled protectively and Xander hurriedly let go of me, his eyes narrowing as he turned me slightly and saw the marks on my back.

He too looked furious as he took them in.

“Shit” he muttered under his breath and glanced at me apologetically “I’m sorry kitten. We got here too late” he added exhaling deeply.

“I’m just glad to see you” I whispered, feeling grateful but they looked grim as they shot glances at each other, silently communicating as if they didn’t want to panic or upset me. “What’s wrong?” I asked certain I didn’t want to hear what they had to say.

was, it couldn’t be any worse than what we were currently facing, could it?

“They dosed us. We can’t shift” Xavier’s voice is low and pissed.

I open my mouth to say something but the door to the basement opens, a shadow in the doorway. Again, I can feel my body trembling. The last time, I had been hurt beyond what I thought was possible for anybody to bear. If it were to happen again…I could feel my body violently shaking. The shadow, however, was smaller than Alpha Kai’s I realized faintly, as it began to move quickly, causing me to stand up, my hands balling into fists as I prepared to face whoever it was.

I had to protect my mates. They couldn’t fight or defend themselves. I was their only hope, I couldn’t leave them here to die.

Xander struggled to stand. “Run Regan” he murmured, pleading with me to go.

1 shook my head determinedly. I wasn’t about to leave my mates. Not for anything. If I hadn’t been taken, none of this would have happened in the first place. I wasn’t leaving them behind. Maybe I could take this person, whoever it was, by surprise, I thought. The shadow moved forward into the light, and my eyes widened in shock. This was the last person I had expected to see. I almost cried in relief.

“Alpha Nikolas?” my voice is shaking as I address him. “What are you doing here?” I asked even as he looked down at the twins and shook his head in admonishment.

“They brought me with them,” he said bluntly “and told me to stay back. I’m glad I did. Geez” he looked at Xavier who was scowling at him “you’re in bad shape mate. We’re going to have to get you out of here” he added, bending down and lifting Xavier

with some effort.

“Thanks” Xavier breathed even though he looked disgruntled at needing the help.

I helped Xander to stand. Thankfully, he managed with little assistance, although both boys were pale and swaying slightly, still under the effects of the wolfsbane and sedative they had no doubt been given. Alpha Nikolas winked at me. “So glad to see you again Luna Regan” he commented, even as he began to shrug out of his shirt, handing it to me.

I slipped it on and quickly did up the shirt while the twins glowered at him. Alpha Nikolas shrugged and grinned, not fazed by them in the slightest. “I’m a gentleman,” he said as I smiled at him.

Xavier looked as though he was regretting bringing Alpha Nikolas along but I was thankful for the man. Without his help, I doubted I would be able to get the twins out of the basement even if I did manage to find a way to escape. We began to shuffle towards the stairs, only for the door to swing open again. We quickly ducked beneath them. We could hear Heather’s voice, as she began to make her way down.

“Regan” she called, her voice taut, “come out before I’m forced to send Alpha Kai in again. You remember what happened last time don’t you?” her voice is taunting,

I shudder in remembrance. My mates narrow their eyes. I look at them. Neither of them is capable of fighting and if Alpha Nikolas attempts to, he could end up injured and all of us locked back up. I motion to the twins. “Quick, pretend to be unconscious” I snarl.

It’s our only hope. I would have to go with Heather. They looked on the verge of refusing but I glared, daring them to defy me. They glance at each other and then scowl, realizing the wisdom of my plan. The longer I could keep the others away from the basement, the more time they had to recover. I had no doubts Alpha Nikolas would get them out.

They move out and proceed to do that. I push Alpha Nikolas behind me and then move out from the stairs to face Heather whose face lights up with glee.

“What do you want with me?” I asked in dread.

“Isabelle wants a reunion,” she said nonchalantly “and I can’t expect her to come downstairs. Let’s all have a lovely family talk upstairs, shall we?” she smiled crookedly and beckoned for me to make my way towards her.

Without a backward glance and sensing my mate’s continual distress, I walked slowly up the stairs, Heather’s hand reaching out and grasping my arm with a gleam in her eye. Thankfully she didn’t question my shirt, no doubt thinking it was one of the twins. She began to haul me out of the basement. “Let’s go” she snapped “I don’t have all day.”

The door shut with an ominous creak behind me, the twins and Alpha Nikolas still in the basement. I prayed they got out soon, knowing that I might not have another chance to help them, my stomach beginning to churn as I wondered what it was that Isabelle wanted.
