Is She Your Mistress?

She sprang to her feet and rushed toward the coffee table, then, she grabbed a small fruit knife from the fruit basket.

The blade was sharp, a menacing glint flashed across its edge.

Caroline gripped the knife and held it in front of herself. “Anyone who dares touch me gets to die with me today!”

She had nothing left to lose.

I’m no longer some pushover who’s so easily manipulated at will. My hands are not the only thing I need to protect here, there’s also the baby in my belly! If I give in to Elizabeth today, there’ll just be more humiliation waiting for me in the future, Elizabeth will only become bolder and bolder! She thought.

“Ah! She’s holding a knife!” Elizabeth shrieked as she backed into David’s embrace. “Be careful, Mr. David, don’t let her hurt you.”

David looked at Caroline, and Caroline fearlessly met his gaze.

“Put it down,” he commanded.

“No!”

“Do you really think a mere fruit knife can stop me?” David’s voice was calm.

Caroline twisted her wrist and placed the blade against her own neck.

David became serious.

“What about now?” Caroline asked, “If I die right here, how do you plan to explain to Ms. Harper? She’s just reunited with her family and plans to finally enjoy her retirement. Now you’ve forced her favorite daughter–in–law to death with your own hands.”

David hated being threatened more than anything!

And yet, Caroline had a unique ability to win Ms. Harper’s favor.

She had even saved Ms. Harper’s life back then, both of them shared a deep bond together after spending so many years at the orphanage together.

“Caroline, you’re the first woman to ever threaten me,”

“You left me no choice!”

He’s willing to hurt my hands for Elizabeth, why? Caroline thought.

She pressed the knife against her neck, a little bit more force, and the knife would leave a cut.

Caroline bit down hard on her lower lip, “I’ve never owed you anything, nor have I done anything wrong. Yet, David, why do you walk all over me? Do you even have a conscience?”

“Conscience?” David’s lips curled, but he wasn’t smiling. “I don’t even have a heart. How could I have a

David had clawed his way up from being an unremarkable man to the most powerful figure in his family. He was a ruthless man, to say the least.

“Fine, then,” Caroline said with a bitter smile. “At least make it clear for me. I’m Mrs. Ellison, your wife. What about that woman? What is she to you?”

“I can choose whoever I want to be Mrs. Ellison,” as David answered, he enunciated each word slowly.

“Oh, so Elizabeth has just been promoted,” Caroline laughed. “Does that mean she’s your mistress now?”

Elizabeth put on an innocent voice as she said, “Caroline, how can you say that? Mr. David and I, we truly love each other…”

Her words made Caroline want to vomit.

These jerks dare talk to me about love. She thought.

Back at the Brooks residence, she had already noticed these two exchanging flirty glances. She hadn’t expected them to hook up so quickly!

“Fine,” Carolinenodded., “You can have your love, I’ll be the one to step aside. David, let’s go to Civil Affairs, we’ll file for a divorce right now!”

Elizabeth’s face lit up with joy. That was too easy! Once they have finalized their divorce, Mr. David will finally fulfill his promise to marry me. I’ll take the title of Mrs. Ellison in no time!

She looked at David eagerly while waiting for him to agree. He must hate Caroline so much right now.

And yet…

David had a menacing look on his face, his lips were pressed into a thin line.

Does she really think that just because Harper and Richard are backing her, I won’t agree to the divorce? David thought. I’m David Ellison, there’s nothing I can’t do!

“Caroline, just you wait.” He pulled Elizabeth close as they walked away. “You’ll regret what you did today!”
