Because the truth was far too complicated.
Julia turned to the doctor. “You’re afraid of her status, aren’t you? Fine. Then listen carefully to what I’m about to say to her. Once I’m done, you will proceed with the surgery immediately. No more stalling.”
This place was remote, and barely anyone knew about it. Even if Nash rushed over from the city, the fastest drive would take more than an hour. But the longer this dragged on, the greater the chance Caroline would escape.
Elizabeth had warned her. Caroline was cunning, deceitful, and had escaped from her hands multiple times before.
Now, it was obvious she was stalling for time, trying to come up with a plan.
But no matter how impatient Julia was, she couldn’t forge the doctor’s hand if he refused.
“What do you want to say to me?” Caroline asked. “Do you think you can strip me of my title as Mrs. Ellison with just a few words?”
“Of course not, Mrs. Ellison,” Julia said with a smirk. “But as Mrs. Ellison, you’re carrying another man’s child. Tell me, how do you think Mr. Ellison would feels about that?”
She raised a hand, letting her fingernail graze lightly against Caroline’s cheek.
“I don’t know what tricks you used to keep this child while living under Mr. Ellison’s roof, but one thing is certain, he must be the person who wants you to miscarry the most. His thoughts align perfectly with
