David let out a low, mocking chuckle. “Does that even matter?”

David continued, his voice cold and measured. “Does it really matter whether Nash pressured the Brooks family or not?”
“David… What are you trying to say?” Caroline asked cautiously..
He leaned in closer, his deep voice brushing against her skin. “Whether Nash forced the Brooks family or they willingly gave you up out of greed–it makes no difference to me.”
Then what did matter to him? Caroline swallowed, waiting for his answer.
“In the end, the outcome remains the same–Nash was the one who bought your first night, and you up in his bed.” David–spat out each word deliberately. “He was your buyer!”
Her legs trembled beneath her, nearly giving out.
