His fingers slowly moved upward, brushing against her lower lip. “Are you seriously talking to me about love? Caroline, don’t you think that’s a bit ridiculous?”
“I’m just reminding you–without love, there shouldn’t be a child.”
David’s tone darkened. “And what, you and Nash–was there love between you?”
“No. But the child is already here.”
“Then get rid of it! And carry my child instead!”
Caroline shook her head, her tears finally breaking free streaming down her face. “You’re lying to me, David Aren’t you? You’re just trying to trick me, sweet–talking me into giving up my baby by promising me a dream–a beautiful future that’ll never happen… And once I’ve lost the child, you’ll turn your back on me, won’t you?” Her voice cracked with the weight of her emotions. “By then, my baby will be gone, and I’ll have nothing. And what can I do about it? I don’t have the power to fight you… David, please, don’t do this. I’m begging you. Whatever you want, I’ll do it. If you want a divorce, fine–I’ll go to Ms. Harper myself. It’s my fault, not yours. I was never meant to be part of the Ellison family. I don’t belong here. I’m not worthy. I won’t hold onto the title of Mrs. Ellison… I’ll leave. I don’t deserve this title. I’ll walk away with nothing.”
She grasped his wrist, trying to remove his hand.
But he didn’t move.
Tears streamed down her face, dripping onto his fingers.
“You think I’m deceiving you?” David let out a cold laugh. “You actually believe that I-”
His chest rose and fell with restrained anger, but halfway through, he suddenly stopped. Then, without warning, he straightened and kicked the edge of the bed.
The force shook the entire frame.
Caroline gasped, gripping the sheets tightly just to steady herself.
Looking at David’s furious expression, she bit her lip. Maybe I didn’t phrase it right. What I meant was… miscarriage, then getting pregnant again–it sounds simple when you say it, but in reality-”
“Enough!” David cut her off sharply. “You just don’t trust me!”
She clenched her jaw, meeting his gaze without backing down.
Fine. If this was how it was going to be, then she would’t hold back either.
It wasn’t like this was the first time she had fought against him.
