“If I had,” David’s gaze lowered to her stomach, “your bastard child would’ve been in danger.”
A pregnant woman drinking that much liquor, was she trying to kill herself.
Caroline suddenly leaned in, her nose brushing against his, her arms winding around his neck. “I already had a plan. If you exposed me and forced me to drink, I would’ve revealed that I’m your wife. Let’s see how you’d handle that. Pushing your own wife out to entertain other men, what kind of man does that?”
“No matter how powerful you are, do you think they wouldn’t talk behind your back? Sure, they don’t

Whoever wanted the title of Mrs. Ellison can have it. I certainly didn’t want it.

“Tell me…” his voice was hoarse, dangerously low, “do you think they’ll come looking for us after we left the dinner like that?”
Caroline tensed and quickly glanced out the car window. Sure enough, a few people stood outside the restaurant, sneaking glances toward their car. But no one dared approach.
