“Then what else could I do?” Caroline shrugged. “Mr. Boris, do I have any other options?”
“If I were you…” Boris drawled, stroking his chin as if hesitant to continue.

It was Boris who broke first, continuing, “If I were you, I’d go to David and act coy. If that didn’t work, I’d pull the whole crying, shouting, and threatening routine to demand an explanation. After all, you’re not at fault–you’re the victim here. Or, don’t make a scene at the office. Go straight to the Ellison family. Andrew’s dirty tricks wouldn’t be tolerated, and you’d get the satisfaction of seeing him face consequences. But, Caroline, how can you endure so much?”
She gave a faint, bitter smile. “Mr. Boris, someone with your privileged background could never understand people like me. For someone like me, just surviving takes every ounce of effort. Where would I find the strength to fight for dignity?”
“But you’re David’s wife–the rightful Mrs. Ellison.”
“Has he ever treated me as his wife for even a second?”
From the start, Caroline was only David’s bride for good fortune, a pawn in his game.
And now, she was his tool for venting anger, a puppet to be trampled on at will.
Boris frowned. “Are you and David having issues?”
Caroline didn’t answer, which was answer enough.
“That’s not surprising,” Boris said. “With his temper… not many could tolerate it. But give it a couple of days, and it’ll blow over.”
“Mr. Boris, not this time,” she said quietly.
As long as she was pregnant, David wouldn’t let her go.
Boris looked puzzled. “Why? What happened?”
Clearly, David hadn’t shared the truth with him. And why would I? Who
would want to broadcast their humiliation for the world to see?
“It’s a family matter,” Caroline said with a sigh. “I can’t disclose it, Mr. Boris. But rest assured, as long as I’m the formulator for ‘Caroz‘, I’ll do my best to make the brand successful and live up to your expectations.”
Boris thought for a moment. “You know, I can tell that David still treats you differently.”
She wanted to laugh. Differently? Oh, yes. He treats me differently, all
right. He loves to torment, humiliate, and bully
me!
This special treatment was something only she could “enjoy.”
Anyone else? David wouldn’t even need to lift a finger–he’d just have someone else handle it.
What an honor it was. He personally made her suffer instead of delegating the task.

Caroline stayed in the lab until six in the evening before packing up to leave.

Andrew’s expression shifted the moment he saw her.
Caroline continued, “You don’t look too well, Mr. Andrew. Your lips are pale, and you seem low on energy. Are you feeling unwell?”
Though Andrew had fallen from grace, his pride and arrogance remained. Caroline’s jabs, paired with the lingering discomfort from his recent stomach pumping, stoked his anger.
“Ha! Don’t play dumb,” Andrew sneered, glaring at her with venom. “I really underestimated you!”
