“No need to investigate,” Caroline spoke softly. “I’ll confess.”
The doctor and nurses immediately stopped what they were doing.
She continued, “I am indeed pregnant, and it’s twins, almost two months along.”
The room went completely silent, even the sound of breathing became remarkably clear. After a few moments, the doctor and nurses resumed their tasks, continuing as instructed by David.
An ultrasound, blood tests, and a full set of examinations followed. The answer was already clear.
As Caroline stepped off the bed, the moment her feet hit the floor, she lost her balance and fell straight toward the ground.
She couldn’t stand.
A nurse quickly caught her. “Careful, Mrs. Ellison.”
She forced a smile. That title now seemed so sarcastic in this moment. The rain had stopped.
The hospital at dawn was quiet and chilling, giving an eerie feeling to the back of her neck.
David stood at the door of the examination room, staring at the doctor. “Speak.”
“Mrs. Ellison is indeed pregnant, twins, six weeks along,” the doctor said while handing over the results. “Mr. Ellison, would you like to review them?”
David lowered his eyes, his emotions hidden behind his lashes. Since their marriage, David hadn’t touched Caroline, at most a kiss here and there, nothing more.
And Caroline was six weeks pregnant. Which meant, she had been pregnant when she married him. She had come to the Ellison family with a baby bump!
David pondered. No wonder she always said she wanted to be widowed, wanting me dead.
It turns out she was waiting for me to die so there would be no proof, and then she could proudly claim the child in her womb is the Ellison family’s bloodline!
David and Caroline were husband and wife. She said the child
is mine, who would question it?
Moreover, she had saved Harper’s life. Harper liked her a lot, and would never doubt her.
At that point, the bastard child would become the Ellison family’s heir, claiming the family’s wealth, and she and that despicable man could live happily ever after.
Ha… Caroline’s plan was truly brilliant.
But it was a pity. Caroline had miscalculated. David, would not die. Instead, he would awaken, rising to become the highest authority in the Ellison family.

Caroline walked toward him, stopping in front of him. The atmosphere was charged, ready to explode.
The doctor and nurses immediately moved aside, not wanting to be caught up in whatever was about to happen.
No one knew what was going on, nor did they understand why Caroline’s pregnancy, which should have been a good thing, seemed to have made David so grim.

David and Caroline stood face to face. With a sharp motion, David tossed the examination results at Caroline’s face.
She closed her eyes, the sharp edges of the paper cutting into her skin.
It didn’t hurt, but a fierce battle was about to begin. The papers fluttered to the ground, and Caroline stood perfectly still, not moving.
She didn’t know what kind of brutal consequences awaited her. She could only… remain unchanged, no matter what came.
“Anything to say?” David’s voice was low and commanding. “Hm?”
