Is Elizabeth Scheming Something?

David raised an eyebrow. “Only cating the rice, not the vegetables?”
“Yes.”
Before he could say anything, an argument suddenly broke out outside.
Loud voices, mixed with a few screams, filled the air.
David frowned.
“Mr. Ellison, I’ll go check,” Paul quickly said and went outside.
Caroline curiously peeked out the window, seeing a crowd gathered at the entrance, pulling and shoving. What’s going on?
Soon, Paul returned, looking uneasy. He glanced at Caroline before saying, “It’s Ms. Elizabeth outside.”
David’s frown deepened. Was causing trouble at the company during the day not enough? Now she’s bringing it to the house at night? Elizabeth really didn’t know her limits!
Caroline scoffed. “It’s her? Seems like the time–out didn’t restrain her at all. She’s free to come and go as she pleases. I guess those words were just for my ears, huh?”
Paul replied, “Ma’am, Ms. Elizabeth
get up.”

“Do you feel sorry for her?” Caroline glanced at David. “It’s so late, with so many people watching, and she’s kneeling at the Ellison residence door. How will she save face if this gets out?”
David simply said, “Let her stay kneeling.”
Then, he continued eating as if nothing had happened.
Caroline didn’t bring it up again.
Let her kneel, then. Caroline wanted to see how long Elizabeth could keep up her act.
Although they weren’t blood sisters, they grew up together. Elizabeth had been spoiled, so if she could kneel for half an hour, that would be impressive.
Besides, with all the awful things Elizabeth had done to her, it was time for her to face the consequences.
Thinking this, Caroline’s mood lightened, and she ate faster.
It felt like even the fate was helping Caroline. Not long after, a loud thunderclap suddenly echoed through the sky.
Then, the rain came pouring down.

Seeing him so indifferent, Caroline felt a sudden tightness in her chest. This man… he truly seemed heartless.
He was cold and distant toward her, which she could understand, because from the start, David had despised her. But he was clearly biased toward Elizabeth, loving and pampering her. Yet now, he said nothing, letting Elizabeth kneel in the heavy rain without any compassion.
If he
could be so heartless toward someone he liked, how would he treat other women? What, exactly, did David care about the most? What is his true priority? Some people were just born cold–blooded.
The rain poured down in torrents, thunder and lightning flashing.
Caroline should have been happy, because Elizabeth had never been this humiliated. But instead of feeling triumphant, Caroline’s heart tightened, and a sense of anxiety crept over her. Is Elizabeth scheming something?
Kneeling in the rain at night, suffering this huge humiliation, Elizabeth was surely going to retaliate double against Caroline in the future.
And today had gone unusually smoothly for Caroline.
Whether at work or at home, she and David were getting along fine, even “showing affection“-everything was going too smoothly, something didn’t feel right.
