Chapter 487
“You looking to get yourself killed?”
Mitchell took another hard punch, so fierce it left him stunned.
Damn it. Maurice looked like a total pretty boy, with his carefully styled hair and fancy clothes-who’d have thought he could actually fight like that?
“Maurice, that’s enough. Let’s just ignore these two lunatics,” Effie said, stepping closer to him.
She didn’t bother jumping in to break up the fight-there was too much fury in their eyes. If she got in the middle, she’d only end up hurt herself.
Right then, the security guards she’d called showed up.
Maurice didn’t even need them to hold him back; he simply stepped aside, shaking out his hand. “I can’t stand traitors. Next time I see you, Mitchell, you’re getting another beating.”
Mitchell’s eyes were red with rage, his expression murderous as he spat out, “You’re all so quick to accuse me of cheating, but every guy slips up! I realized my mistake, I wanted to fix things, but Effie wouldn’t let me! And why? Because she was already looking for someone else!”
“She dumped me and married someone else right away. Whose fault is that? Three years together, and she tossed it away like nothing. So tell me, was it really me who cheated first, or was it her?” All the resentment Mitchell had bottled up finally burst out.
Maurice didn’t believe a word of it-he knew Effie too well. He barked out, “That’s crap, and you know it!”
Mitchell shot back, furious, “Why don’t you ask her yourself-did she get married or not?”
“She broke up with me and married someone else right after. Tell me that’s normal would you believe it?”
Maurice’s expression changed when he heard Effie had gotten married; he stared at her, looking for confirmation, his face a mix of shock and disbelief.
Effie gave Maurice a small nod. “It’s true. I’m married now. I was actually planning to introduce you today.”
Maurice nodded, turning to glare at Mitchell. “So you stepped in dog crap, and now you want to pretend everyone else did too? You’re the most disgusting person I’ve ever met do us all a favor and keep your mouth shut for once. The stench is unbearable.”
“And as for you and your little sidepiece-what a perfect match. The two of you should just lock yourselves up and stop poisoning the rest of the world.”
With that, Maurice took Effie by the hand, grabbed their friend, and strode off without looking back.
Suzan was so furious, she was grinding her molars to dust. “I’m calling the police! I swear, I’m reporting this!”
She was at her breaking point-she couldn’t take any more.
Mitchell frowned and muttered, “Forget it. He let me hit him on purpose. Even if you call the cops, it’ll just look like a brawl. No point-no one wins.”
Suzan turned a cold, annoyed glare on him. “You promised me before I lent you all that money-you said you’d do whatever I said from now on.”
Mitchell’s brow furrowed even more. He’d already swallowed his pride for those millions-what more did she want from him?
Finally, Mitchell lost his temper. He shouted at Suzan, “Fine! Go ahead, call the cops. Maybe they’ll drag me off too, and then you can run crying to your precious uncle again.”
Suzan’s expression shifted at the mention of Lionel Harper.
She’d been relying on Lionel for help way too much lately, and he was clearly getting annoyed. They didn’t have any real emotional
connection—just a sudden reunion, and it wasn’t like he was evergoing to treat her like family.
Thinking of that, Suzan swallowed her anger.
She walked over and tugged at Mitchell’s hand, coaxing him, “Come on, I know I
was wrong, okay? Let’s just go eat somewhere else, all right?”
Mitchell just grunted his agreement, barely looking at her.
Suzan was overjoyed, clutching his hand so tightly it was as if letting go for a
second would mean losing him forever.
