Chapter 436
Effie pointed toward a nearby mirror, signaling for Lyman to take a look at himself.
He was dressed in crisp dress pants and a white shirt, though a few small bloodstains dotted the fabric. On his head sat a mask-hat with a huge chainsaw and jagged fangs, and in each hand he held a prop chainsaw.
The moment Lyman stepped out of the costume shop, every eye turned to him.
His hands were long and elegant, with Effie having rolled up part of his sleeves for him. His arms were slender yet defined, his fingers pale and graceful, the knuckles pronounced.
He was tall, and the fitted waist of his dress pants made his legs seem even longer.
He’d barely set foot in the amusement park before he became the center of attention-he looked as if he’d just stepped out of a comic book.
A small crowd trailed behind him.
Effie followed, phone in hand, filming Lyman as they walked.
He was a little stiff, not fully letting himself enjoy the moment. But that restraint only made him look even more like the Chainsaw Man character he was dressed
as.
Effie watched him, thinking to herself how lucky she was that this man was already hers. If so many people were eyeing him, and she had to fight for him, she wasn’t so sure she’d win.
She walked over and patted Lyman’s hand.
He turned, looking at her.
The chainsaw mask turned with him, and even though she’d already seen it before, the effect still startled her for a split second.
Effie took a deep breath to steady herself.
Then she grinned at him and said, “Hey, handsome, you look amazing. Will you be my boyfriend?”
Lyman gazed at her without blinking, saying nothing.
Effie froze.
Did he regret it? Was he not interested in her anymore? Suddenly, she felt foolish for blurting out such a question.
But then Lyman’s lips curled into a faint smile. “No.”
Effie’s heart skipped-had he really changed his mind?
“I don’t want to be your boyfriend. I want to be your husband,” Lyman said quietly.
Effie was stunned, and for a moment her heart thudded so fast she thought it might leap right out of her chest.
She managed to say, almost breathlessly, “Okay.”
Lyman set down one of his prop chainsaws and took her hand. “Come on.”
Effie nodded quickly, her voice soft but determined. “I’m with you for life. Don’t you dare let go.”
“I won’t.”
He glanced at her, lips quirking up, and murmured, “Mischief.”
Effie winked back at him.
The bystanders who’d witnessed the scene were left speechless.
“I didn’t know you could pull something like that! If I’d known, would’ve asked first!” one girl
complained, as if just asking would have guaranteed her a shot at Lyman.
“Oh, please. Have you seen what that girl looks like? You think you could just waltz up and ask? She’s gorgeous. Honestly, I’m more worried she’s the one getting tricked. The guy’s just got a good body-he’s wearing a mask, for crying out loud!”
“Hey, you don’t think they’re both park actors, do you?”
“Oh, come on! Does that mean we’ve all been fooled?”
Effie and Lyman were already far away, but the gossip about them lingered in the
air.
Isabel was one of the amusement park’s actors. She didn’t have any other work lined up at the moment-bills for her designer shopping habits still needed paying, after all.
So she was here, dressed up as an NPC, heavy makeup disguising her so no one recognized her. She didn’t feel embarrassed about it.
She was a little curious, though.
She’d been working her shift with the
rest of the park actors, but hadn’t
caught a glimpse of this so-called heartthrob everyone was talking about.
“Where’s this handsome guy, anyway?” Isabel muttered to herself.
