In the CEO’s office, David stood by the window while holding a cup of coffee.
For some reason, he couldn’t stop thinking about the scene from earlier, when Caroline was pressing the knife against her neck.
Defiant, resilient, and fiercely independent, she was like a rose with thorns, David thought. Does she not understand the concept of “surrender“?
No matter. David’s lips curled into a cold smirk. I’ll teach her myself. One day, Caroline will kneel before me and beg for mercy.
“Mr. David,” William knocked on the door and then stepped inside. “The internal recruitment for the formulation department is starting, but Mr. Boris has an urgent matter and can’t attend. Would you like to go instead?”
“Alright.” said David after looking at his watch.
The Ellison Group was expanding into the women’s beauty market, so they placed a high priority on the ⚫ cosmetics and skincare sectors. Normally, such recruitment events would be handled by the department director, but to make sure that only the best talents were hired, David had assigned the vice president to handle it instead.
Now, however, it seemed that his personal attendance was required.
David turned and walked out of the office with steady steps, there was something about the way he walked that commanded respect.
The recruitment hall was bustling. All the candidates looked tense and eager, each and every one of them was hoping to be selected.
Caroline had just filled out her application. She received her number and waited outside.
“Caroline, I’m losing confidence.” Anna looked upset. “I peeked at the others just now, most of them have master’s or doctorate degrees, studied abroad, or have years of experience. We’re total newbies… It seems like we’re only attending as background extras.”
“Believe in yourself,” Caroline reassured her. “Just give it a try. Whether we succeed or not, at least we’ve
made the effort.”
“Right! If even one of us gets in, it’ll be worth it!”
“Exactly. Stay calm.”
Just then, someone who Caroline assumed to be the supervisor entered the hall and cleared his throat.. “Attention, everyone. The CEO will be here shortly. Please watch your behavior and make a good impression. No slip–ups!”
“Oh no, I’m done for,” Anna muttered, she felt that her newfound confidence had already evaporated. “The CEO himself is interviewing us? I’m doomed! I’ll freeze up completely! Caroline, what do I do?”
Caroline’s heart sank.
