As husband and wife, they could settle things behind closed doors. There was no need to continue arguing in front of the Brooks family.
David yanked Caroline forward, making her stumble. She nearly fell.
“Where are we going?” She barely managed to steady herself, panic rising in her chest. He’s not taking me to the hospital is he?
Just as she was about to struggle, David’s voice fell heavily, “Home.”
She froze for a moment before silently following behind him. But the Brooks family wasn’t about to let
this slide.
“Mr. Ellison…” Matthew stepped forward, putting on a show of concern. “If you’re angry, take it out on me, but please don’t do anything to Caroline. She’s innocent. Don’t make things difficult for her. Our family may not have much power, but we’ll still protect our daughter.”
Samantha added, “Yes, this child belongs to the Newton family–it does need to be taken care of. But whether it’s terminating the pregnancy or having another child, we should discuss this properly. After all, what’s done is done…“
David’s expression turned ice–cold. “Discuss? What part of this is up for discussion? Since when do you people have a say in my affairs?”
Even if Nash had forced the Brooks family into selling Caroline, they weren’t innocent either.
They could have told the Ellison family. They had ways to resolve it. But instead, they had still chosen to sell her.
So no matter how much they insisted Nash had coerced them, David had his own judgment.
“Move.” David spat out the word, his presence overpowering.
Matthew and Samantha exchanged a look. Left with no choice, they had to step aside, watching helplessly as David took Caroline away.
The car drove out of the Brooks residence, disappearing into the distance.
Several minutes passed before Elizabeth finally broke the silence in the living room.
“Dad, mom, how… how did things turn out like this?”
Mr. Ellison had actually said that Caroline could carry his child!
Even if they went through all the trouble of getting rid of Caroline’s current pregnancy, it would be meaningless.
She would just get pregnant again.
And every time, it would be Mr. Ellison’s child! Caroline’s status was now unshakable.

As she spoke, Elizabeth suddenly recalled the marks of Caroline’s collarbone and neck.
“Yes! That must be it. She was certain now. “Dad, mom did you see the coat Caroline was wearing? It belonged to Mr. Ellison! She only kept it on because she was covering up… kiss marks!”
That was proof enough. David and Caroline were perfectly compatible as husband and wife.
“Pregnant and still seducing Mr. Ellison,” Elizabeth spat bitterly. “She’s absolutely shameless–a fox, a filthy whore!”
She hurled every insult she could think of. It was the only way to ease the jealousy burning inside her.
She had stripped naked in front of David, and he hadnt even looked at her.
Yet Caroline–pregnant, no less–had him leaving visible marks on her body in broad daylight.
Samantha eyed her. “If Caroline can do it, so can you. Mr. Ellison is a man, and men are naturally like this. You just need to try harder. Elizabeth, think about it–if you get pregnant with Mr. Ellison’s child, would you still have to worry about Caroline?”
