“Mr. Ellison, 1–I’m not very bright. I don’t quite understand what you mean.” Matthew wiped the sweat off his forehead. “Could you give me a hint?”
“A hint?”
“Y–Yes, I…”
Before he could finish, David suddenly swept everything off the coffee table with a sharp motion!
Teacups, fruit plates–everything crashed to the floor with a loud clatter.
His expression darkened. “At a time like this, you’re still trying to bargain with me?”
Matthew’s legs nearly gave out. He stammered, unable to form a complete sentence.
Samantha trembled as well. She stole a glance at Caroline..
Caroline happened to be looking at her too.
Their eyes met, and Caroline smiled faintly. “You can’t hide the truth forever. I’ve endured for so long- it’s time to clear my name and prove my innocence. People may deceive, but the heavens see everything. Karma is inevitable.”
Samantha instantly understood. That little wench must have tattled to Mr. Ellison about the night we sold her for the first time!
She quickly turned to Matthew. Matthew had figured it but too.
After all, Caroline had no idea that the man that night had been David. She didn’t even know that Elizabeth’s favor came from taking her place. But now, Caroline was acting so confident, which could only mean one thing-
David was questioning them about selling Caroline’s first time.
If that was the case, the Brooks family actually felt a bit relieved.
Matthew was about to speak when Samantha stopped him.
She would handle this!
Samantha quickly forced out a few tears and let out a long sigh. “Mr. Ellison, I’ll confess–I’ll tell you everything. I never expected you to find out about this Sigh. I originally planned to bury this secret forever, never to bring it up again. It was Caroline who told you, right? I understand. She holds a grudge, thinking our family was heartless and treated her unfairly. She feels wronged. But actually… there’s more to the story!”
Now it was Samantha’s turn to put on a show.
Matthew stood frozen, completely speechless, unable to interject at all.

“A hidden truth?” David’s face remained cold. “Is that so?”
Samantha nodded. “Mr. Ellison, I don’t know exactly what Caroline told you, and I won’t try to explain. myself. The truth is, we were in the wrong. We… shouldn’t have sold her body, and we shouldn’t have taken that money,”
David tapped his fingers lightly against the armrest, seemingly indifferent, but his gaze was sharp. “So, you’re admitting to it?”
“Yes, we admit what we did.” Samantha wiped the corners of her eyes. “Ever since this happened, I haven’t been able to eat or sleep properly. It’s been weighing on me day and night. But now, it’s finally out in the open. At least I can breathe a little easier–I won’t have to live in fear every day.”
David narrowed his eyes slightly. “Go on.”
Samantha glanced at Caroline. “Caroline, my daughter. Are you sure you want me to say it?”
